NEW HAVEN PARKS AND RECREATION ANNOUNCE TWO FALL PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH AND A HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION FOR ALL
(10/27/2008) NEW HAVEN- The New Haven Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees has announced two recreational programs for New Haven Youth that will take place this fall. From October 28 until December 4, Parks and Recreation will be offering swimming courses for youth. The cost of the program is $45 for residents and $90 for non-residents to cover the costs of sessions every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the duration of the program. The swimming course will take place at John Martinez School. Space is limited for this program. Parents are encouraged to register their children immediately to secure a place in the class.
The New Haven Co-ed Youth Basketball League will commence on December 2nd for 5, 6 and 7 year-olds and on December 6th for children in grades 3-8. Leagues are determined by age and grade. Basketball games and practices will take place at John Martinez, Wexler Grant and Conte Schools. The cost for participation in the league is $20 per child. Basketball registration begins on November 3rd and ends December 1st.
To register for either of these programs, parents should visit the Administrative Office of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees at 720 Edgewood Avenue, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Proof of age and residency are required at the time of registration.
The Department is also proud to announce a number of Halloween related events taking place at Edgewood Park this week. On Thursday, October 30 and Friday, October 31, Parks and Recreation will offer a “Halloween Hay Ride” at the Edgewood Ranger Station between 4:30-6 p.m. A donation of $2 is suggested for all participants. This is an event for the entire family that will be followed by the “Fright Night 2008 Alien Invasion” at the Coogan Pavilion in Edgewood Park between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. also taking place this Thursday and Friday.
